The Hand and Machine lab has two kilns. Due to electrical constraints, these kilns can fire only up to cone 6.
Skutt KMT – 1027 Kiln (the big kiln)
Skutt KM – 614 – 3 Kiln (the small kiln)
We use cone 6 clays in our lab. For these clays, bisque firing should be done at cone 05 (1888-1911 degrees F) and glaze firing should be done at cone 6 (2232-2269 degrees F). Note that cone 06 is different from cone 6. See this chart for more information on cone number and firing temperatures.
