Knitting Machines
We are developing software to generate custom knitting machine punch cards.
Knitting machines can automate the process of creating knitted works in a fraction of the time and use punch cards to achieve complex designs that would be difficult to do by hand. Our focus is to bring new ways to implement computer science into the hands-on craft and extend the limits of textile designs.
The process for creating these computed knitted works begins by coding a design using the Processing 3 software. Once a design is constructed, a PDF of the file can be saved and sent to a laser cutter machine to cut out the punch card for use. The images below show a glimpse of the process.
