My name is Wayne Rudnick and I am excited to work with you all this semester. I am in my first semester of my Master’s degree for computer science. I received my computer science undergraduate degree with a minor in mathematics here at UNM. I am enrolled in this class because I would like to gain experience building physical models using computer code.

https://www.icd.uni-stuttgart.de/projects/iba-timber-prototype-house

I have chosen the IBA Timber Prototype House by The Institute for Computational Design and Construction (Prof. A. Menges) in Apolda, Germany. They have extensive experience in the field of computational design and construction with an emphasis on sustainability. They have developed a wide range of cutting edge techniques for advancing the world of sustainability in construction.

The IBA Timber Prototype House is an innovative architectural project that looks into the combination of a traditional timber construction with computational design and fabrication used to enhance the building process. The project focuses on creating a sustainable building from wood through clever building methods. Through the use of digital tools, the design eliminates the needs for metal or glue, allowing the house to be made from wood alone. I love this idea and I am particularly interested in the sustainability aspect of this clever design. These well made structures can be used to make long standing and affordable housing. The use of computational design to improve architectural methods is something that I think will be a big focus going forward, especially as we are facing a housing shortage. I hope to make some models that achieve similar results to the IBA Timber Prototype House during this semester.

Hello everyone!
