All my shapes used were hollow from within and had a twist in the angle. Thereby, the shapes could not be generated by a traditional slicer. Additionally, I purposely made Figures 1 and 2 without being filled in so it shows the extrusion from inside and outside on each layer. I attempted to print the object as a whole at first however it did not go as planned as it over-extruded the filament and curled up everywhere.

<figure The vessel is created as a support for the movement of the turtle. This also created a spike upward weave form.

Iterative Design

In Figure 3, I had to go back and forth with the printer. I wanted to make sure that the extrusion on the Z-axis did not fall apart. I originally wanted to do a star but it curled up and extruded a shape with no form. I played with different Z-axis using the pitch_up and pitch_down functions and noticed that they needed to be narrow enough on the horizontal plane for the extrusion to build on each other.

After adjusting the extrusion lift, I came to the conclusion that the object needed a narrow lift. I wanted the design to have an almost spherical center to maintain the movement of the nozzle in the Z axis. The form also bounces and, due to its center of gravity, it returns back to the flat, hollow, horizontal surface.

GCode Files and Rhino Holding Shape Forms

https://handandmachine.org/classes/computational_fabrication/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/RaneemRamadanLA4.zip

Final Prints

Process For all figures of the process, I wanted to implement the vessels project into this assignment and see how the code changes based on the changes I make to the twist of the object as well as the number of points for extruding the turtle nozzle.
