Progress Summary:
Overall, things are going decent, I got pretty sick for a week, so that set me back quite a bit in the project, as I had to focus on missed work. I completed my first stamp in Rhino. I decided to manually compute it, since I wasn’t particularly in the mood to code, and that took way longer than anticipated. It made me wish I had used Grasshopper for the computations. I will definitely be coding the next two stamps.
Here is what my workflow looked like in Rhino:
I started off with a 12cmx8cm rectangle which I then filled with overlapping 4cm circles.
I then added inner circles 3.6cm in diameter to create the actual “stamp” surface. I then manually split and joined all the lines which was incredibly tedious and took me about 4 hours. Like I said, I will be coding from this point out.
I then extruded all the surfaced and used booleanDifference to create a 3d shape. This was also incredibly tedious and took some trial and error.
I then printed this shape and will start experimenting with printing soon, I am just waiting on getting some ink in the mail. I set my printer to a faster speed as an experiment, which is why I think if shifted over like this. I am going to try with the stamp, but I may have to reprint. I have faux-linoleum and rubber to experiment on.
Deliverables:
For my deliverables, I am keeping most of the same objects, but I am not going forth with the tin. I want my project to be more cohesive, and focusing on just printmaking creates a theme throughout the work.
- 3 different tiling blocks
- A handle of sorts that the tiles attach to (still debating on this, I don’t think it is necessary without the tin element)
- A rubber stamp with one of the tiles carved into it
- A large-scale stamped tiling on paper
- One garment of some sorts with the pattern stamped on
- Addition: I am going to use the Risograph printer in ARTSlab to create a piece with the computed shapes as an element.
Timeline:
Due to being sick and having an incredibly heavy workload the past few weeks, I am shifting my timeline. By the end of thanksgiving break I will have my three blocks completed plus the rubber/linoleum block carved and printed. The follow week I will visit the ARTSLab for the Risoprinter and next weekend I will work on the fabric pieces!
