Small Assignment: Scott Hudson

Due Dates

Assignment due date: 9pm, Wednesday November 6

This assignment is required for graduate students enrolled in CS591 and optional for students enrolled in CS491.

Scott Hudson is an influential researcher in HCI, particularly technical HCI. He will be visiting our department in early November. He will give the colloquium talk on Wednesday November 6. He will also give a guest lecture to our class on Thursday November 7. This assignment is designed to introduce you to his research and provide context for his visit.

You should: 1) Attend the colloquium on Wednesday November 6 and 2) Read a paper co-authored by Scott Hudson. The colloquium is at 2:00pm in Centennial Engineering Center, room 1041.

Post a short summary of the paper on this website and relate it to his colloquium talk. You can find most of his papers in the ACM Digital Library. You are welcome to choose one that looks interesting to you. It should be a standard paper–not one that is published in an “Extended Abstract” and not one associated with a keynote talk.

Come to class on Thursday ready to discuss the paper and his presentation.
