Introduction
Hello! My name is Jaime Gould (you may see my name pop up in the directory as “Emma”, but I go by Jaime). I am in my second semester of my PhD in Computer Science and I am a research assistant in the HandAndMachine Lab, run by Leah Buechley. I received my Bachelor’s in Computer Science with a Minor in Physics from Smith College in Northampton MA, after which I returned to New Mexico and began working for a small company based out of Santa Fe dealing with emergency management, particularly working with firefighters. My experience has largely been in graphics, projection, and programming for the web, but I have more recently branched out to computational programming and slicing software for 3D printers.
Inspiration
In the past I have dabbled in costume making and design, but at the time I didn’t have access to 3D modeling tools or a 3D printer. These tools have become more commonly available in recent years, and some of the projects that inspire me the most implement 3D printing and computational fabrication to design new types of textiles by printing on fabric or printing structures that move/behave like fabric.
The following are just a few examples (links to further description of the projects are embedded in the images). I’m very inspired by the different forms this medium can take in so many different fields, including fashion, utility, and artistic expression.
