Small Assignment 2: Processing and Turtle Geometry-Ruby Ta

Polar Plot: I have a hard time picking the right values for the coordinate system to display all the elements to the screen. This assignment element is actually very interesting to work on.

Centered Circle: This is the easiest element of this project. It didn’t take me too long to figure it out.

Flower: The flower is the hardest thing to create for me. It was so hard to figure out the math/ geometry behind the shape. I had a hard time finding geometry/trigonometry formulas to make the pedals all circle around the pistil.

Turtle Drawings: It was fun to work on these last three elements. I tried to make changes to all the parameters and created more variables to create more interesting shapes.

  1. Hi the image that stuck out to me the most was the red turtle drawing. When I had begun my project, that was sometime similar to what I envisioned creating, but was unsuccessful and went in a different direction instead. I really like the block design and how each iteration lays on top of the next iteration. I can see how each section is similar to another one, but as a whole the image becomes asymmetrical. I also think that the different colored backgrounds support each image well.

  2. Hello Ruby,
Your turtle drawing, especially the green one look very nice. I like using a little randomness to tweak these. Your polar plot also came out very well, the background is a very nice touch. The flower was definitely a challenge, but I reused my math from creating the circle so I had done some of the work before I started this one.

  3. Hello,

I really like what you did for problem one with the colors and how you incorporated many polar plots to create a digital floral arrangement. I can see that it could have been really challenging to adjust where the flowers go and how many get generated.

Your second turtle drawing is really interesting. It seems like a random-ish walk out of the origin.

    Thank you for sharing!

  4. Hi Ruby Ta,
Your polar plot reminds me of the art of flower arrangements! And sometimes flower arrangement arts such as the Ikebana make me think about fireworks, its colors, motions and the 3 dimensional pattern

    1. and also a poem about fireworks from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xi_Murong :
Shall we go see the fireworks?
      go see that
How to regenerate flowers in bloom
How to reproduce the dream on top of the dream

Let’s walk side by side across the desolate river bank and look up at the night sky
The ecstasy and sting of life
      all at this moment
      like fireworks

  5. Hey Ruby,
I really love your polar plot! It reminds me of 60s/70s psychedelic art (if that’s the right term). It’s so cool that we can recreate those kinds of designs now with different media. You mentioned it was difficult to find the right coordinates for those, so I’m wondering what method you used to do that. Anyway, nice work!
